May Bay Phil Guild Newsletter

May 11, 2026

Dear Guild members and friends,

Last March we saw many of you at the Ciel Creative Space in Berkeley for our Bay Phil Deconstructed Concert. We hope you enjoyed hearing the sections of the orchestra isolated before hearing how it all comes together. It was a special treat to hear Judy Lam provide background to Mussorgsky’s great work, Pictures at an Exhibition and a joy to watch her conduct it. More recently, we hope you were able to join us for the wonderful Young Recitalists performance. These terrific young musicians always inspire us every year.

The next Bay Philharmonic event is a celebration of American music for our nation’s sesquicentennial. Pianist Allegra Chapman will join guest conductor Jane Brown in a performance of Rhapsody in Blue alongside other All-American classics. It’s perfect day out for Father’s Day on June 21, 3 o’clock, at Chabot College Performing Arts Center. See the Bay Philharmonic website or call 341-201-4206 for tickets.

The Bay Phil Guild has a new fundraising partner in Federico’s Italian Restaurant in Niles. Please join us this Thursday, May 14 for a memorable meal while helping the Bay Philharmonic Guild. Just let them know that you’re part of the fundraiser, and a portion of your bill will go to the Guild. Federico’s is located at 37804 Niles Blvd.

On Saturday, May 9, the Philharmonic Guild hosted a booth at the Ohlone College Flea Market. Members were able to inform the public about the Philharmonic and what the Guild does. We sold items that had been donated, so we raised some money too.

On May 30, the young musicians from the Bay Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will be joined by professionals from the Bay Philharmonic for their annual side-by-side concert. Every year this is a valuable opportunity for our youth members to share in the life of a working musician and learn the level of dedication required for a life in the arts. And it’s always a wonderful performance. The concert will be held at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 4181 Irvington Ave, Fremont at 3 o’clock. This is a free event. There will be light refreshments, and guild members are encouraged to bring something.

And as Spring turns to Summer, it’s time for the Guild’s annual installation luncheon when we elect our Board of Directors for the coming season. We will be sharing more on this soon, but for now please save the date of June 13. We look forward to seeing you then.

You will also soon be hearing more about the upcoming season for the Bay Philharmonic.

As always, we thank you so much for your continued support and hope you spread the word that a great way to support your local orchestra is to join the Bay Philharmonic Guild.
