Calling all young recitalists and ensembles!

Young Recitalist Competition
Audition Saturday, March 8 and Concert Sunday, May 4

The Bay Philharmonic and Bay Phil Guild are holding a Young Recitalist Competition to showcase your talents. This is your chance to shine, perform locally in the community, compete with fellow musicians and receive a monetary prize!

If you play an instrument and are up to 18 years old (as of January 1, 2025), just select up to a 10-minute piece* you can play, and enter the competition. We look forward to hearing your piece! 

*An excerpt from a longer work is acceptable.

Criteria and Process

All it takes to participate is: 

  • Reside in Castro Vally, Dublin, Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Milpitas, Newark, Pleasanton,

    San Ramon, Sunol or Union City

  • Complete a short Audition Application 

  • Send your non-refundable $45 Audition Fee 

  • Get your application and audition fee in by February 28, 2025 

  • Prepare to play your piece from memory and demonstrate your artistic nuance, technical skill and musicality 

  • Audition on Saturday, March 8 at Fremont’s First United Methodist Church (2950 Washington Boulevard

  • Hold May 4 open on your calendar to perform if you’re a finalist

Once all applications are received, we’ll contact you to arrange a specific audition time. 

After auditions, our panel of esteemed judges select and notify up to 10 finalists who perform their pieces during a Community Recital on May 4

Awards

We will award prizes:

  • 1st Place $300

  • 2nd Place $200

  • 3rd Place $150

  • Docker Award for applicants under 10 years old $ 100

In addition, each finalist receives a Certificate of Recognition for their achievement.
