BayPhil Youth Orchestra Welcomes Dr. Carlos Hernandez
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Bay Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) is pleased to announce Dr. Carlos Hernandez as its new Music Director. Dr. Hernandez follows the founder and previous director of the BPYO, Judy Lam, as well as the conductor of the youngest ensemble, Marcella Schantz. Ms. Lam and Ms. Schantz will continue to be active with the orchestra by providing support and supplemental instruction to the students during this upcoming season of transition.
Maestro Hernandez’s appointment represents an important milestone for the orchestra and its parent organization, the Bay Philharmonic. Dr. Hernandez is a graduate from Ball State University with a Doctor of Arts with a secondary focus in Music Entrepreneurship. Along with this expertise, he brings an incredible amount of enthusiasm and vision.
General Director of the Bay Philharmonic, Jung-Ho Pak, says, “We’re very fortunate to have such a talented conductor who can speak to a new generation of musicians as well as broaden our diversity and representation with the entire East Bay community. He will take Judy’s inspirational vision of serving every child in our community to new heights.”
Dr. Hernandez will make his debut appearance alongside Ms. Lam and Ms. Schantz at the "Side-by-Side" show on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 3PM at Irvington Presbyterian Church in Fremont, which will feature the musicians of the BPYO together with the professional musicians of the Bay Philharmonic.
